Basically there are no major differences between .html and .htm extensions. They both represent an html file, search engine friendly and they never differs when considering pageranks too. Then why do designers code with different extensions? This is because when new file extensions that came after html are mostly built with three |
| letter file extensions such as php, asp, jsp etc., likewise html was represented as htm with the three letter extension. Some designers or coders prefer htm, some prefer html. That’s it! The web was already filled with billions and billions of html files and it still continues, it is impossible to announce to webmasters or website owners to modify their html files to htm. As HTML being mother of all programming languages, Search engines loves and respects the html or htm rather than any database language. The similar example is the differences between JPEG and JPG (.jpeg vs. .jpg), when all the image format files are with three letter extensions gif, png, psd etc., jpeg was the only file extension with four letters. Now we mostly represent jpeg files as jpg, but there are people who still name the files as jpeg. When years pass, I hope jpeg file extensions will be completely represented as jpg. JPEG vs. JPG is a similar example for HTML vs. HTM. |
